Hood Company was the beginning of what later became a premier fiberglass fabricator in the Southern California area. From 1947 to the early 1960s Hood Company was involved in Thermoplastic fabrication. About 1962 we were approached by Thermobile to help in the development of one of the first refrigerated small domestic vans for food delivery. That relationship later became a subsidiary and pushed Hood Company into the world of Thermoset plastics. Incorporation took place in 1968 under the name “Hood Manufacturing Incorporated”. By 1974 the small company had outgrown its first facility in Gardena, California and its’ second in Carson, California, moving to their current Location in Santa Ana, California. We were well on our way to supplying the needs of our expanding customer base. The company started by Jack Hood had grown from the “one man dream” to employing all of the immediate family including wives. Change came again in the mid 1980s when the founder left the daily management role for health reason. Next the company sold to long time employee and son Michael.
Since 1984 under the leadership of “Mike Hood” and his management team, HMI has expanded to 49 employees. Being a “Job Shop” requires constant adjustments to the market. Innovation is the key to success in the composites industry. See the “WHAT IS NEW” tab for some of our latest projects.
